New Food and Drug Commissioner Margaret Hamburg, one of the wealthiest and most connected appointees of the Obama administration, is having to dispose of some major assets.
Hamburg and her husband, hedge fund executive Peter Fitzhugh Brown, reported an income of at least $10 million in 2008, according to financial disclosure forms filed with the White House. Brown, an expert on artificial intelligence, works with James Simons, the country’s top hedge fund earner last year.
According to the The Wall Street Journal, the couple reported assets of $21 million to $40 million (disclosure forms call for income and assets to be reported in broad ranges). They will have to divest themselves of several holdings, including pharmaceutical stocks, to avoid conflicts of interest.
Hamburg, who will make $150,000 a year at the FDA, has resigned her board position at medical supplier Henry Schein, Inc., and has sold off nearly $3 million in company stock over the past several days.
Hamburg is the former New York City health commissioner and was assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services during the Clinton administration.
She is the daughter of two prominent physicians – David A. and Beatrix Hamburg.
Her father is former president of the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the Institute of Medicine. Her mother was the first African-American woman to attend Vassar and to receive a degree from the Yale University School of Medicine. Beatrix Hamburg is a former president of the William T. Grant Foundation.

FDA director Margaret Hamburg has an amazingly nefarious pair of parents.
Here’s a few highlights from www.smokershistory.com/
David A. Hamburg
Hamburg was the president of Carnegie Corporation of New York from 1982 to 1997.  He was chief of the adult psychiatry branch at the National Institutes of Health, from 1958 to 1961; professor and chairman of the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford University from 1961 to 1972, and a professor of human biology at Stanford from 1972 to 1976; president of the Institute of Medicine from 1975 to 1980; director of health policy research and education at Harvard University from 1980 to 1983; and president and chairman of the board of the American Association for the Advancement of Science from 1984 to 1986. “Hamburg was a member of the United States Defense Policy Board with Secretary of Defense William Perry and cochair with former Secretary of State Cyrus Vance of the Carnegie Commission on Preventing Deadly Conflict. He is a member of President Clinton’s Committee of Advisors on Science and Technology and a visiting professor at Harvard Medical School’s department of social medicine. He was the founder of the Carnegie Commission on Science, Technology and Government….Hamburg was an investigator of “stress and anxiety” and behavior, at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (1952-53), the Institute for Psychosomatic and Psychiatric Research and Training at the Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago (1953-56), the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University “
The Institute for Psychosomatic and Psychiatric Research and Training at the Michael Reese Hospital had been planned since 1945. “Funds were provided chiefly by the Jewish Federation of Chicago and Mr. and Mrs. A.D. Lasker of New York; Mr. and Mrs. Leigh Block of Chicago; and Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Brody of Beverley Hills, Calif.” (Institute to Spur Psychiatric Study. New York Times, Jan. 3, 1951, pg. 40.) The Blocks and Brodys were daughters and sons-in-law of the Laskers. The longtime (~25y) medical director of the American Psychiatric Association, Melvin Sabshin, was its assistant director while Hamburg was associate director. (Melvin Sabshin: A Profile, by Leslie Knowlton. Psychiatric Times, May 1998.) Sabshin led the effort to remove homosexuality from the list of psychiatric disorder. (Panelists Recount Events Leading to Deleting Homosexuality As A Psychiatric Disorder From DSM. Psychiatric News, July 17, 1998.)
The Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences was established by the Ford Foundation under Paul Hoffman, and Frank Stanton, president of CBS from 1946 to 1971, was its founder and chairman from 1953-60, and a trustee until 1971. [Hoffman married Anna M. Rosenberg]
…Hamburg participated in the IOM Invitational Conference on Smoking and Behavior, “Health and Behavior: A Research Agenda Interim Report No. 1, Smoking and Behavior.” Hamburg’s wife Beatrix was on its advisory panel, and Gilbert S. Omenn and Surgeon General Julius Richmond made presentations. Judith Rodin, now president of The Rockefeller Foundation and a director of Citigroup, was a participant.
[..former IOM President Kenneth I. Shine.]
David Hamburg eulogizes the former president of the Carnegie Corporation, John Gardner. Hamburg joined the board of Stanford University in the “John Gardner chair,” and later followed him as president of Carnegie as well. He likens Gardner to his “other dear friend who recently passed away, Cyrus Vance” (who was co-founder of The Public Agenda, upon whose board serve a number of the subjects of this website). (A Tribute to John Gardner. Delivered by Dr. David A. Hamburg, Wednesday, April 17, 2002.)..The much-lauded Gardner had been President of Carnegie from 1955-65; HEW Secretary from 1965-68; and was the Miriam and Peter Haas Centennial Professor in Public Service at Stanford University. He was a trustee of the Salk Institute for Biologial Research, circa 1971, whose trustees engaged in assorted anti-smoking activism.
The Carnegie Commission on Science and Technology
(From “A Brief History of the Carnegie Group’s First Three Years, 1990-1992,” by D. Allan Bromley. Carnegie Corporation of New York, April 1996.) “In 1988, Carnegie Corporation of New York, led by its president, David A. Hamburg, M.D., established the Carnegie Commission on Science Technology and Government… The co-chairs of the Commission were Joshua Lederberg, president of Rockefeller University, and William T. Golden, chairman of the board of the American Museum of Natural History and a businessman with a long and influential career in national science policy. Of the tweny-two members of the Commission, half were scientists and engineers with governmental experience, and half were nonscientists with particular knowledge and experience in public affairs and science policy…. The Commission members were pleased when President Bush chose D. Allan Bromley, the distinguished Yale University physicist, as his science advisor and upgraded the title. The Commission co-chairs and Dr. Hamburg met with Dr. Bromley in August 1989 and discussed some of the suggestions in the Commission report.” (Foreword, by David Z. Robinson.)
Bromley was an old crony of Golden’s from the board of directors of the AAAS. They decided to convene a meeting of the science advisors of the G-7R nations (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the US), plus representatives from the European Community and the Soviet Union. Bromley continues: “We also decided that the meeting should be held at an isolated location and that there should be no staff present… As we discussed possible sites for the meeting, both of us thought immediately of the Seven Springs Center at Mount Kisco, New York — the former estate of the Eugene Meyer family, which had owned the Washington Post and other major U.S. newspapers. Originally the estate had been given to Yale University, together with a generous endowment to cover both its maintenance and upkeep, as well as basic staffing. For reasons that are still very unclear to me, Yale decided that it did not wish to retain the estate, and it was transferred to the Rockefeller University, where Joshua Lederberg was then president. The estate was roughly an hour’s drive from the New York airports, was secluded, and provided extremely comfortable quarters for both the social and business aspects of the proposed meeting. President Lederberg recognized the potential of this meeting and immediately made the Seven Springs Center available to us.”
Hamburg is chairman of Carnegie’s “Great Transitions: Preparing Adolescents for a New Century.” Other members are his wife, Beatrix; former Surgeon General Julius Richmond; Wilma S. Tisch; several well-known politicians (Michael Dukakis, Sen. James Jeffords of Vermont, Sen. Nancy Kassebaum of Kansas); and Ted Koppel of ABC News.
*
Thomas Kean, former chairman of the Carnegie Corporation of New York (and anti-smoker former governor of New Jersey and Trustee of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation) is co-chair of the Century Foundation’s Homeland Security Project. President Bush named Kean to head the September 11 investigation. The other co-chair of the Homeland Security Project is Richard Celeste, a director of the Carnegie Corporation of New York (and Chairman of the Health Effects Institute). And, David Hamburg’s daughter Margaret Hamburg is a member of the Coordinating Committee of the Homeland Security Project. http://www.smokershistory.com/Hamburg.htm
The Carnegie Corporation has funded the Carter Center since the early 1980s (information from The Unfinished Presidency, by Douglas Brinkley). David A. Hamburg is a trustee of Carter Center, along with Richard C. Blum, the husband of anti-smoker Sen. Dianne Feinstein, and a business crony of Thomas L. Kempner.
…Hamburg is a member of the International Advisory Council of the Harvard AIDS Institute, which is chaired by Maurice Tempelsman and Mrs. William McCormick Blair Jr.
Hamburg is a Trustee of the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. A fellow trustee is John E. Pepper, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Procter & Gamble, where Hamburg’s crony Joshua Lederberg was a director. Trustees emeriti include Katharine Graham and C. Everett Koop. The Chairman is Hamburg’s crony from Carnegie, Thomas H. Kean.
Hamburg is a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Gulf War Veteran’s Illnesses, along with Phillip J. Landrigan, the pediatrician featured on ABC News’s Good Morning America.
…Hamburg is a Director of the National Sleep Foundation (a subject in which the National Heart Lung & Blood Institute is concerned.)
BEATRIX HAMBURG
Beatrix A. Hamburg was a director of Science [magazine] in 1989. Other directors included William T. Golden, also its Treasurer; and Walter E. Massey of the RAND Gang, its retiring President and Chairman. Members of the Editorial Board included Elizabeth E. Bailey, a director of Philip Morris; David Baltimore, who was involved in the American Cancer Society’s National Commission on Smoking and Public Policy; Philip E. Converse, Director of the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences from 1989-94; and James D. Watson, of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Lasker Foundation director Daniel E. Koshland Jr. was the Editor. (Science 1989 June 16;244(1440):1229.)

“The Jewish Policy Center, a not-for-profit 501 (C)(3) ‘think tank’, provides ‘scholarly’ perspectives on foreign and domestic policies that impact the Jewish community in the United States, and the broader American public.
“The JPC asserts that Jewish Americans can no longer afford to stubbornly hold on to outdated ideas of the past. This includes optimism over misguided Middle East peace deals, appeasement of dictators, and unrealistic hopes that dangerous realities in the Middle East might simply change without tougher U.S. policies.
“As such, the JPC strongly supports the global war against ‘Islamic extremism’. We also support U.S. efforts to ‘spread democracy’ in the Middle East. We believe it is critical to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil. We support Washington’s efforts to deter dangerous states from acquiring nuclear weapons. Finally, we lend our full support to Israel in its long war for security in the Middle East, etc.”

“The cosmetics magnate Ronald S. Lauder, who is a supporter of Israel’s Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his far-right Likud Party, founded the Lauder school. [Ron Lauder School of Mossad U. (IDC), Herzliya.]
“Lauder, president of the Jewish National Fund and former chairman of New York Governor George Pataki’s Commision on Privatization, is the key individual who pushed the privatization of the WTC and former Stewart AFB, where the flight paths of the two planes that hit the twin towers oddly converged. Ronald Lauder played a significant, albeit unreported, role in the preparation for 9/11.”
Lauder is actively involved in numerous “civic” organizations, including the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the Jewish National Fund, the World Jewish Congress, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, the Anti-Defamation League (national commissioner), the Jewish Theological Seminary, Brandeis University, and the Abraham Fund, etc., ETC.
He is married to Jo Carole Lauder and has two children, Aerin and Jane. His daughter Jane is married to Kevin Warsh, a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve.  Aerin is married to Eric Zinterhofer – formerly of Apollo Management, L.P.

Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (formerly Minerals Management Service)

That’s quite an impressive-sounding name change, hey? Here are many (but by NO means all) of the conspirators and incompetents within “our” US gov’t who are responsible and to blame for the BP (Rothschild, et al) attack / disaster in the Gulf.  Some names not marked in red may have transferred since that time – and others, like former director Susan “Liz” Birnbaum, may have resigned or been rewarded by being moved further up the chain, &c.:

From: Who is responsible for the oil spill?
“…S. Elizabeth Birnbaum, Director of the U.S. Minerals Management Service is the Obama-appointed official responsible for ‘the environmentally safe exploration, development, and production of oil and natural gas.’  She had absolutely no experience in the field when she was appointed to oversee the safe development of offshore oil in July 2009.  Birnbaum quit as soon as disaster struck. Employees at her agency in Louisiana were ‘part of the industry’ and were more interested in watching pornography at work than monitoring the safety of offshore drilling operations.  Many of them had worked for the companies whose operations they were responsible for monitoring.” [Emphasis is mine.]

11/08/2005: Got wheels?
“Greg Gould, of Sterling, does. Lots of wheels, 48 brand-new ones on 12 GM cars, to be exact.
Gould almost refused to take the phone call telling him he had won the MasterCard Win 12 Cars Sweepstakes. Had to be a telemarketer in disguise, he thought. His wife told him to hang up.
But it wasn’t a scam [presumably], he was the big winner and “It’s been crazy ever since,” said Gould, who who went to a McLean parking lot last week – the cars wouldn’t fit in his Lowes Island cul de sac – to collect his winnings…”

The Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs serves as the chief operating officer. He is responsible for a nationwide system of health care services, benefits programs, and national cemeteries for America’s veterans and their dependents.

“Flournoy is one of the most important leaders at the Defense Department.
“One of the top national security experts in the country, she worked in the Defense Department under President Bill Clinton, holding two positions simultaneously. She has since accepted fellowships at a number of think tanks. In February 2007, she cofounded the Center for a New American Security, a progressive foreign policy think tank that has major influence on the Democratic foreign policy wonks.
“…she has been at the center of some of the administration’s most challenging foreign policy issues, from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to the effort to repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’
“…Flournoy is also a member of the Aspen Strategy Group, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Executive Board of Women in International Security, etc.”
“Past relationships:” 2008 Obama-Biden transition team – member; Center for a New American Security – president; EMILY’s List – strategist; Fannie Mae Foundation – president & CEO; National Defense University – professor; White House state dinner (11/24/2009) – invited guest. “Present relationships:” Aspen Strategy Group – member; Barack Obama administration – under secretary of defense; Center for Strategic and International Studies – senior associate; Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and Terrorism – member; Council on Foreign Relations – member; U.S. Department of Defense – under secretary.  Obama will nominate Jacob Lew as the next director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, replacing Peter Orszag, the current head of the OMB, who is leaving for the Council on Foreign Relations.

“If there was a Hall of Fame for budget directors, then Jack Lew would surely own a place,” Obama said in introducing Lew at the White House. “He has proven himself already.”
.
Just that statement alone means that we are in for continued trouble.
