 Worked as a financial analyst and lawyer before entering the nonprofit world. Employed first by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, he was its New York Director of Programs for Jews in the Former Soviet Union for almost a decade, afterward serving as Executive Director of Dor Chadash.
